When to go — and when to book

The Antarctica cruise season runs from November to March, during the southern summer. Early season (Nov–Dec) brings pristine ice and courting penguins; mid-season (Dec–Jan) has the warmest weather and penguin chicks; late season (Feb–Mar) is best for whale watching. Because expedition ships carry as few as 100–200 guests, the best suites sell out roughly a year in advance — the sweet spot to book from Malaysia is 10 to 14 months before departure, and travel-fair periods such as MATTA Fair are when Sedunia Travel releases its strongest expedition offers.

Arctic expeditions too

The same expedition lines sail north from May to September. Sedunia Travel’s Arctic collection includes Svalbard & Spitsbergen with Ponant (8D7N), Greenland’s ultimate fjords with HX (13D12N) and the legendary 26-day Northwest Passage crossing. Frequently asked questions

How do I get to Antarctica from Malaysia?

Most expedition cruises depart from Ushuaia in Argentina, reached from Kuala Lumpur via Doha or Dubai to Buenos Aires. Sedunia Travel arranges the full routing — international flights, overnight hotels, domestic connections and transfers — as part of your expedition package. White Desert fly-in programmes depart from Cape Town, South Africa, a shorter routing from KL.

When is the Antarctica cruise season?

November to March. Early season offers untouched ice, mid-season (December–January) the mildest weather and penguin chicks, and late season (February–March) the best whale sightings. Arctic sailings run May to September.

How much does a luxury Antarctica cruise cost from Malaysia?

All-inclusive expedition fares typically range from around RM60,000 to RM140,000 per person depending on the line, suite category and length, with flights from Kuala Lumpur arranged on top or bundled. Fly-in private camp programmes with White Desert start from around RM230,000 per person. Contact Sedunia Travel for current fares and travel-fair promotions.

Which cruise lines does Sedunia Travel represent for Antarctica?

Sedunia Travel represents Ponant (including the luxury icebreaker Le Commandant Charcot), HX — Hurtigruten Expeditions, Swan Hellenic and White Desert for polar voyages, alongside a full portfolio of ocean and river cruise lines at the Sedunia Travel Cruise Centre.

Do I need a visa to visit Antarctica?

There is no visa for Antarctica itself — landings are managed under the Antarctic Treaty permits held by your expedition operator. Malaysian passport holders currently enjoy visa-free entry to Argentina and Chile, the usual gateway countries; our consultants confirm all entry requirements for your routing at booking.

Will Antarctica deals be available at MATTA Fair 2026?

Yes. Sedunia Travel features polar expedition offers at every MATTA Fair, including exclusive fair-only savings on Ponant, HX and Swan Hellenic departures. See our MATTA Fair page for this year’s deals or pre-register with our team.
